The Indian cricket team’s participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which is set to be held in Pakistan, is uncertain as the BCCI has not made any official statement.
The Indian cricket team’s participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place in Pakistan, is still uncertain as the BCCI has not made any official announcement. The two countries have not played a bilateral series in nearly a decade, only meeting in international and continental tournaments. Although Pakistan traveled to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup, India has yet to make a final decision on the Champions Trophy. There have been reports suggesting the possibility of a hybrid format for the tournament, but the ICC has not confirmed this. Reportedly, Pakistan plans to hold India’s matches in Lahore. Former Pakistan captain Moin Khan issued a warning to India, stating in an interview with Cricket Pakistan that the BCCI should honor its ICC commitments.
“India must honor ICC commitments, and if they don’t, Pakistan should consider taking a stand by not participating in future tournaments held in India,” Moin Khan stated.
“In my opinion, Indian cricket legends should urge the BCCI to keep sports separate from politics. Fans all over the world want to see India and Pakistan play, which benefits not only Pakistan but the sport as a whole.”
Additionally, Moin spoke about how his son Azam’s confidence had suffered due to the treatment he received over the years, blaming former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja for the harm done to his son’s career. Moin, who was also a wicketkeeper-batter like his son, said that after watching all of Pakistan’s matches in the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Americas, he was confident that his son was the best fit for the role.
“I watched the entire World Cup and the matches leading up to it, and it seemed like Azam was the top choice for wicket-keeping and batting. But then, suddenly, after just one game, the whole strategy was changed,” said Moin, who scored over 6,000 international runs.
Azam faced significant criticism from fans over his fitness, especially after getting out for a golden duck against the United States, which didn’t sit well with Pakistan’s passionate cricket supporters. He was then dropped for the following match against India.
