Antigua and Barbuda Falcons speedster reaches new milestone in T20I cricket.
Pakistan’s pacer Mohammad Amir carved his name into the record books during the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, surpassing India’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s record of 24 maiden overs in T20I cricket.
Amir, representing the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, has now bowled 25 maiden overs, positioning him third on the all-time list for most maiden overs in T20 cricket.
At 32, Amir achieved this milestone while playing for the Falcons, surpassing Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s previous record.
West Indies’ off-spinner Sunil Narine currently tops the chart with 30 maiden overs, followed by Bangladesh’s all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan with 26.
Despite the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons facing challenges in the competition, Amir has showcased excellent form, consistently proving his value. The left-arm pacer has taken five wickets in seven matches during the 2024 CPL.
Over his T20 career, Amir has claimed 347 wickets in 302 matches, solidifying his reputation in the shortest format of the game.
Amir’s distinguished career includes numerous standout moments, particularly his pivotal role in Pakistan’s 2017 ICC Champions Trophy triumph. His bowling brilliance in the final against India, where he removed key players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan, was crucial in Pakistan’s emphatic 180-run victory over their arch-rivals.
The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons are now preparing for their next clash against the St Lucia Kings on Monday, September 16. Despite their struggles in the tournament, with only one win—a close six-run victory over the Trinbago Knight Riders on September 6—the Falcons are determined to turn things around. In their last match, they were defeated by the Barbados Royals on Thursday, September 12.
